A dinner in honour of the Coronation of their Majesties King George _ and Queen Mary will ba Riven by his Excellency the Governor at Government House on June 22.
The cases of Clapham v. Onslow Borough Council and Wutcrs v. Onslow Boroti!,'!i Council, claims for compensation for land taken for purposes of a water-sup-ply catchment, were to have been heard to-day by Mi-. Justice Siin and assessors, but have been postponed sine die, owing to the illness of Mr. Wilford.
Tho Charitable Aid Committee of the Wellington Hospital and Charitable Aid Board met yesterday, and dealt with various applications for relief. Mr. J. W. M'Kwan (chairman) presided over Iho meeting, at which there were present: Miss Richmond, and Jlessrs. J. JO. Fitzgerald, .1. Smith, D. Koljertson, W. Galloway, and I he. Kcv. W. A. Kvans. Mrs. J'ell, a member of the Nelson Hospital Board, was introduced to the coiumittco by Miss Richmond, and remained during the proceedings-.
Messrs. Whitcoml>e and Tombs have contracted to supply the City Council with stationery, and with printing and oltico books, both at schedule rates, for a period of two year.-. Unaccepted tenders for printing and office books were the "iV.Z. Times" Company, Turnbull, Hickson, and Gooder, W. J. Lankshtar, and Ferguson and Hicks. The only unaccepted tender for stationery was that of Ferguson and Hicks.
Yesterday Detectives Cassells and Mason arrested r. man, who will appear ut the Magistrate's Court this morning charged with theft of a double-barrel Sim, valued at £3, the property of Walter Smart.
To Kuiti milk-vendors have informed their customers that yesterday would be the last day on which they would' bo able- to supply milk for tome time. Parents are very anxious about the matter. It is understood that tho suppliers have been endeavouring to mako arrangements at Hamilton and Te Awamutu for a supply to come by rail, but without effect. The position is the result of a dry season.
In a report published on June 1 of the proceedings at tho annual conference of the Wellington branches of the New Zealand Farmers' Union, Mr. W. B. Slatheson was reported to have said: "I think they (Canterbury and Auckland Political Leagues) are doing work which is hardly needed." What Sir. Slathesoii actually said was: "I don't think wo should officially endorse tho league, though I think they arc doing work which is badly needed." An error also occurred in naming the newly-elected officers of (lie Wellington Executive. Sir. 11. A. Kevins was elected vice-president and not Sir. W. B. Slatheson, as stated.
