Postle for the quarter-mile championship of the world ,at Rockhnmiiton.' The men got away together. Postlo was leading- over the first hundred yards and Trembath over thee next hundred. Postle then pressed to the front, and kept well ahead till the last fifty yards, when Trembath sprinted, .and won by five yaf|ls. The.timo was 50 l-ssec. "CROSS-COUNTRY" TOR AUCKLAND. The council of the New' Zealand Ama- - ■ tear Athletic Association met last evening, there being.present: Messrs. 1\ Ross, J. C. Ciisack, T. Crouch, B. C. Levvey, I' , . J. Thompson, C. E. Bridge, E. Chaffey; W. I'. Larkin, A. Davis, and M. H. Oram. Messrs. j; C. Cusack and'T. Crouch at- . tended as delegates'.for the Otago Centre : for the first time. * The secretary (Mr. W. G. Talbot) occupied the chair until Mr. E. Chaffey had been elected unopposed as president on the. motion of Mr. Davis, Mr. Thompson seconding. ■ Mr. l< , . Ross was elected to fill tho position of vice-president, vacated by Mr. Chaffey. Tho Southland Centre asked tho coiinoil to support its application to have the 1912 N.Z.A.A. championship meeting held at Invercargill.—Received. The application of T. W. Wilkinson, Chertsey, for reinstatement, helcb over from last meeting for confirmation, was finally granted. Mr." Davis .moved that the next cross-country-championship take place in Auckland. Mr. Bridge said it had to bo borne in mind that, unless three centres were represented at the meeting, it would lapse. Since Auckland' lny at one of the extremities of New Zealand, tho. expense of travelling might dissuade teams in southern centres from competing. .' Mr. Larkin suggested that a decision should bo postponed until a definite assurance had been received from Auckland that requirements in regard to course, ;tc, would be met. Messrs. Ross and Cusack supported the claims of Auckland. After some further discussion, it was agreed that the cross-country championship bo allocated to Auckland. After some debate it was agreed, on the motion of Mr. Larkin, that the whole fiiicstion of adopting the new rules should be reopened at a special meeting on Monday, June 10.
