(By Telcerai>h. -Special CorroEpondonU Palmcrston, Juno 5. The debt on tho local Roman Catholic Church has been reduced by JiGlO during the past year. This gratifying intelligence was conveyel to the congregation by the Rev. Father Costello on bunday, lather Costello at the same time expressiii- the hope that a similar result would reward their efforts in the coming year. The congregation was outgrowing the accommodation provided in tho present church, and they would need in tlie near future to make an extension. There was a large attendance of members at the ol the Railway Institute on batnrdav ownine, when a pleasant time was spent, the. feature being a vocal and in-Mi-uineutal programme. During the evenin" presentations were ma<ie .u .\li-.-,srs. Bretlicrton (case of pipes, tobacco pouch, and umbrella), Amundsen (an easy chair), and Alsop (a'marble flock), these presentation* being f«r .-i-rviees rendered in thl inlerr-N of the local branch of llio A.S.K.S. A number of toa-ts were honoured. A mom; those present wore Mr. Mack, general secretary of the A.S.U.S. The annual minting of Iho l'almerstoi; Licensing Heneli was li<-!<1 (o-ilay, Mr. A. H. Thomson. S.M., prcsidiiiß. Renewals of publicans" and wholesale licenses were granted, and also two transfers. The police report on all llio houses, was favourable.
