THE GEORGE FUND.
NEW ZEALAND CONTRIBUTION. The Governor has addressed the following note to the Press Association: — "The result of the contribution to tho George jb'uud has been'forwarded to me by the manager of the Bank of New Zealand. The limit of lime lor contributing towards this fund was Juno 2. As, however, the sum contributed only amounted to fourteen pounds, 1 have decided to leavo the George l'lind open till June 20, feeling sure that deep regret would be felt throughout New Zealand that a collection of such a peculiar and loyal character had bpen so poorly supported. The notice given inviting the Georges of tho Dominion to join in this patriotic movenient has been so short that it renders impossible any organisation being formed to bring it before those who may be willing to contribute. I must, therefore, again ask the indulgence of the press in order to make a general appeal to all Mayors of boroughs and chairmen of councils and road boards throughout New Zealand to do what is in thei' , power during the next fortnight to acquaint the Georges in their localities with the spirit and object of the fund, in the hope that when it closes on June 20 it may represent an amount more in consonance with other funds that are being raised throughout the Empire, and more in keeping with the loyal sentiments of the Dominion. Collections, with a list of donors and their addresses, can bo forwarded to mo at Government House or to 'George' Fund, Bank of New Zealand, AVellington, up to date June 20, "ISLINGTON, Governor."
