The Senatorial Committee of Inquiry regarding the liquidation of Church estates is discussing an official report, showing that forty million pounds sterling, which the Government predicted would be available for lay schools, had been almost entirely dissipated in law costs, owing to tho religious congregations' fight, extending over a decade. The congregations had appealed on every question until the liquidator found that tho Church was almost insolvent. Possibly, a balance of a million and a half would be saved, • which sura would be required for the infirm and aged members of the

congregation.
