The silver jubilee of tho Roman Catholic Archbishop of Melbourne (Dr. Carr) will fall on September 29, and in connection with the proposed celebration a number of priests and prominent Catholic laymen met in tho sacristy of St. Patrick's Cathedral, Melbourne, on May 17. Dean Phelan, who presided, after explaining tho object of the meeting, read a letter from Mr. Thomas Louglilin, of Ballarat, wdio suggested that Catholics generally should bo allowed to take part in the movement as well as thoso who resided in tho archdiocese. Wero nis suggestion accepted ho would ho pleased lo subscribe £1000. (Applause.) Tho dean said that a number of other generous offers of support had boon already received.

It was unanimously decided that Archbishop Carr should ho requested to permit the celebration of his silver jubilee to take place, and that the form that this should assume was to bo decided by the wishes of the archbishop.
