GENERAL GtoLEY'S MOVEMENTS. The General Officer Commanding the New Zealand forces (Major-General A. 3. Godley, C.8.). wHo returned .from an official tour of .the southern districts'last l-'riday, leaves for Napier to-morrow. He will go on to Gisborne afterwards, and thence to the- Thames district. The General expects to bo back in Wellington on June W, and on his. way back • hopes to visit the training camp of the Waikato Monnted Rifles-&t Cambridge. On June 2 (Friday next) registration, as everybody ought to know by this time, will cease, and those who,, liable under the "obligation , to train" clauses of the new Defence Act, have not complied with the terms of the proclamation whieh has been posted broadcast over the Dominion, will be held accountable for their sins of omission. Those who may be fined for failing- to register will not, by paying ' the : ntie, exempt themselves. They will still be liable for registration, and further neglect will simply mean further fines. . i After the completion of the registration, the task of. posting the young men of the country to their various regiments will bo commenced. "This," said General Godley to a. representative of The Dominion during, a brief conversation mi the subject, ''will be a big task, and it will bn September before the results of all this preliminary work assume a definite shape, and w« aro ready to commence the training of the new-army. The interests of employers and employees will have to be very carefully considered when the work of- posting is being proceeded with, in order that the training Reason will not clash with their interests. Employees'in a particular firm will be posted to different branches of the service, and will train at different times. The interests of the farming community are ako of vital importance. Training in the funning districts will bo arranged 60 that thfi slack periods of the year will bo utilised, and employees afforded an opportnnity of lumping their training. It may be pointed out also, as the question has been raised, that in the case of students preparing for examinations, provision will bo made, subject to good and sufficient reasons being submitted, whereby the student concerned may take liis training with another unit, , should the training of his pvn unit be fixed for a. period which might clash with hit studies." In reply to a question on the subject of the Staff College at Camberley, the General said that he hoped that four New Zealand officers would bo able to present themselves for the entrance ex.amination this year. He was not in a position, ho said, to mthcato who these officers were. During the nbfence in England of Captain D. C. Spencer Smith, the duties of that officer will bo undertaken by Captain Thornton, of the General start at .hcatlaunrters. Mr. I , '. P.
