DEMISE OF QUEEN MAKEA.

EEIGN OF FOETY YEARS. [By Telegrapp.—Press Association.) Auckland, May 26. Makea Takau, Queen of Earotonga, died on May 1 after a, long illness, 'aged 72. She reigned for forty years. Tho Resident Commissioner visited the palace several times daily, ami was with Makea when she died. When Makea was appointed Eangi was also nominated. Before she died Makea expressed a wish that Eangi should succeed. This wish will probably be given effect by the Federal Council. The body was lving in state for three days, and tho funeral was an imposing one. The- usual tangi was also held.
