THE KING'S BIRTHDAY.
■ SOME MISAPPREHENSION. The Labour Department stat-cs thai in reference to the obsorvanco of the Sovereign's Birthday as a holiday, there appears to bo some misapprehension on the part of-many persons to the effect that under tho Public Holidays Act of last year the Sovereign's Birthday, which falls en Saturday, Juno 3i must bo observed on tho following Monday. Although there was soino proposal afoot to "Mondayise" many of tho • publio holidays, tho Public Holidays Act, 1910, did not carry this proposal into effect as regards tho Sovereign's Birthday. Under this Act, it is only when the Sovereign's Birthday falls on a Sunday that it shall be deemed to bo on tho succeeding Monday. Tho only holidays that aro actually "Mondayiscd" are. Labour Day", which is moved from tho second Wednesday in October to tho fourth Monday in October, and Dominion Day, which is now to bo held ou tho fourth Monday in September.
