The committee set up some time back in connection with tho formation of a River Board to meet the incursions-of the Manawatu River met to-day. It was'decided lo proceed with the formation of the board. Tho area will embrace the whole borough on a. first, second, arid third-class rating basis. Outside the borough the distance will be two miles from tho river. Tho petition is now being.prepared, ami a canvasser will commence the work of obtaining signatures this week.
The following criminal cases will be dealt, with at the sitting of the Supreme Court, which opens here on Tuesday next before Mr. 'Justice Chapman:—Charles Wilson and Ada Florence Wilson, , alleged breaking and enteringaud theft; Wil-liam-George Davis, alleged breaking and entering and theft; Frederick Allen Richards, alleged .-Oieep-stcnliiig; James M'Gee, alleged attempted iuclecont assault; Howard Wilson, receiving s-tolen property; jiigust A. Sterapa, alleged false pretences] Wilfred Marr, unlawfully carnally knowing a girl umJer 1G years of ago; Reginald Reidy, alias Willie Peters, alleged arson;' George Herbert Major, alleged theft. On tho civil side are two cases:—An appeal from the S.M. Court at Paltncrslon, Palmerston Borough' Council (appellant!-), Inspector of Factories (respondents). Also au originatingsummons under the Declaratory Judgincuts Act, George Albert Tattle v. Oscax Monrad and others. An enjoyable danco was held at .Longhum last night in aid of the hall funds. Tho hall was prettily decorated, and thisfloor in splendid condition, while the attendance was large, there being visitors from all around the district. Messrs. J. Barr and L. Cooksley were Jl.C.'s. The financial result will be a material help to tho funds of the hall. Over thirty lads have Riven in their names us- a nucleus towards the formation of tho senior cadet, corps in connection willi All Saint's Church. Detachments of tho corps are tn be formed at Ttrrace End, Lintoii, Longburu, and Fitzuerbert. . Councillor Morris, of Christchurch, ie on a visit to Palmerston. The commitlcp, which has in hand the organising of a bazaar in connection with the local Catholic, Church, held a successful dance last night, to raise funds towards purchasing goods for the stalls. Mr. M'Grath was secretary and M.C. 'Die ladies who will act as stallholders nt the bazaar provided refreshments. Tho annual meeting of the North Is» land Railway I-eauuo is to be held here on AVedncsday, June 21.
