In adjourning the matter hist Saturday, tho Court stated that the defendant nmM: remain in thb cuslodj ol the sheriff until this morning. V.'lien riueslioncd yesterday, Hie sheriff (Mr. 13. G. A. Cooper) declined to say what steps he was taking in pursuance of that instruction. It was ascertained elsewhere ihat the sheriff had detailed a subordinate official to closely watch the defendant.
