NO-LICENSE LEAGUE.

, THE PAST TEAK'S WORK. . ■ The annual 'meeting of the Wellington City' and Suburbs No-License League was held last evening. The Eev. W. J. Comrio occupied the chair, and o. representative Gathering was present, including visitors from various parts of the Dominion. , . The secretary's report .showed that, during tho year meetings we're held regularly, and were well attended. In view of the coining'campaign, committees had been formed at Wellington South, East, Central, and Jiorth, Kilbirnic (North and South), Jlifnmar, Seatonn, Island Bay, Brooklyn, Kelburne, Wadestown,: Kaiwarra, Johnsonville, Ngaio, and Hataiiai. Several meetings had been held in thoselocalities, and it was intended to. shortly hold public meetings in the city. The executive had had the good fortune to secure the services of Miss- Weymouth, and this lady was now doing duty in Wellington North. It \y.as decided to!issue a monthly publication, as had been done in the past, which would be distributed over the city and suburbs regularly. Tho chairman, in moving the adoption of the report, paid a compliment to the energy displayed by the agent of the League, Mr. J.-W. G. Hoare. In. respect to legislation, Mr. Comrio. while giving the Government of the day credit for several safeguards, was most emphatic in his appeal to the meeting to. agitate that the democratic principle.of the" bare majority be extended to No-License reform. It was not denied that certain privileges wye granted, such as the abolition of. the locker system in No-License areas, registration of barmaids, abolition of grocers' licenses, etc., but these were infinitesimal compared with the desirableness of bringing breweries under local option, so as to make it compulsory in districts where hotels were voted out that the brewer must go also, and, last, but not least, the bare majority. . It was mentioned during the evening that a Dominion convention of No-License workers would be held in Wellington on June' 13, when no fewer than 150 representatives would attend, all the electorates in New Zealand being represented. The election of officers for the ensuing year resulted as follow.s:—President, the Rev. W. J. (.'oniric; vice-presidents, Mesdatnes M'Alister and Hildreth, Messrs. John Castles, E, A. Wright, M.P., S. Martin, \V. J. Helyer, W. Cook (Johnsonville), and H. N. Holmes; committee, Messrs. B. G Denton, E. Willis. J. Brookes, J.Rumgtty, F. Cox, 0. Kelly, T. Lang, and H. Oxley; treasurer, Mr. A. J. Bennett; secretary, Sir. George Petherick; assistantsecretary, Mr. W~. M.,Goldriek. • In addition to the above, each electoral committee will be allowed one representative on the executive. ■ ■ , ■
