(From Our Special Correspondents.) 9 FEATHERSTON, i Tho annual mooting of parishioners of' St. John's. Church was hcid 011 Wednesday night, the vicar (the llcv. A. T. li. I'uao) presiding. The statement of receipts and expenditure lor the year ending March 31, was road and adopted, tho total income for the period being JC2OI Ms. 2d., including a balance of Jib lis. lOd. on hand at the commencement. General and special offertories contributed X'.IO Os. Id., and subscriptions to stipend fund X 97 9s. There is a balance on hand of JJI9 2s. 9d. with a liability of .CIS lis. -Id. .Special reference was made to the services of Mr. J. G. Cox as treasurer and lay-reader for many years past, and ho was accorded a hearty vote, of thanks. Mr. Cox was nominated as vicar's warden and eynodsman. Mr. G. Fenwick was elected parishioners' warden, and Messrs. T. V. Wilson, A; B.' OXcale, W. Buck, and H. Boulden vestrymen., Mr. A. .1. Tflogood was reappointed auditor. On the motion of tho vicar it was decided to forward (as a recommendation from the meeting to the synod) a resolution to the effect, that women bo eligible for election to the vestry. After the business of the meeting had been concluded, musical and elocutionary items were contributed by Misses L. llodder, Pattle, England, Marsh, Butler, Mrs. Wickens, and Messrs. Hawk, Bouldcn, and T. V. Wilson. Social gatherings will be held during tho coming winter. FEILDING. The Rev. A. Porter, who is to be in* ducted into the Presbyterian Church at Marfan next Wednesday in succession to the Rev, ]). Gordon, arrived in Feilding yesterday. Mrs. Porter and family accompanied him. : Mr. Porter has just returned from a trip to Sydney. During- the interval at tho practice of tho Liedertafel on Wednesday evening a surprise was sprung upon Mr. Louis Pirani, the eecretary. After congratulations had boon extended to Mr. Pirani upon his marriage, tho chairman (Mr. Collingwood) presented Mr. Pirani with a handsome silver-mounted and suitablyinscribed combination barometer and thermometer. The opening mooting of tho Feildins Debating Society was held on Wcdnesda" evening, the subject of debate Iwing: "Is Compulsory Service Necessary?" Mr. M'Manaway took 1 the party out in . two motor-cars, an*., although it rained all the afternoon, and'they went down in the aggregate by two points, tho'Fcilding players thoroughly enjoyed the outing, and tho goncroua hospitality extended to them. They wore entertained at luncheon, afternoon tea, and at dinners Thanks were returned by Mr. J. T. Barry (president) and Mr, D. H. Guthrie, M.P., who extended a heartyinvitation to tho Huuterville Club to send a party of players down to Feilding early next season. The full game of' 21heads was played. Barry's rink met Meldrum's rink, and went down by 2. Loehhead's rink met Wilson's rink, and a dead-heat resulted, 25 all.
.. WOODVILLE. Mr. R. B. Ross, M.P., has received 1m timation that the loading dock asked for tho railway goods shed is to be put m hand very soon. This concession has been granted as the outcome of the action of the Chamber of Commerce in drawing attention to tho inconvenience of loading heavy materials in cases where wagons cannot use the crane. The dock when finished will allow of carts backing right under the crane, and thus tho heavy hfta will be avoided. Another fatality is reported, Timothy Sullivan, aged 22 years, who was working for Mr. Cullinane on Ottawah'o Rond contract, meeting his death. It appears that, very soon after commenciag work, on Monday morning, a mass of earth cam© down and "buried him. The police brought the body into Woodvillo, where tbc iu-_ quest was held yesterday.
