"NO SCENES."
NOT LIKE SOME OTHER COUNCILS. Speaking to the newly-elected City Council yesterday, tho Mayor (Jlr. T. M. Wilford) remarked that during the past year tho council had had as clean a slieet as any. civic body could have'in being free iroin "scenes" of any description, irequently news was telegraphed from other countries and from other parts of New Zealand of "scenes" that were not in any way a credit to the local authorities. If n chairman was believed by councillors to bo anxious to discharge his duties fairly, squarely, and impartially, and if at the same limo he was firm, business would Iks conducted in a busi-ness-like way, and no "scenes" -would take place. Concluding: his remarks under this head, Mr. Wilford advised new councillors to walk warily at tho start. Officials of the council and the speaker would bo glad at any time to help new members.
