A PROMINENT AGRICULTURIST.
MEMORIAL TO THE LATE MR- G. C. '. WHEELER. ' Mr. Ernest Short, of Waituua West, •whov;as in Wellington ■ yesterday, is inciting subscriptions to a fund which has been established in' order 'to provide money Wherewith to erect a memorial to the memory of the late Mr. G. C. Wheeler. "It -is felt," the circular begins, "that some substantial memorial should bo erected to the memory of the late G. C. Wheeler in recognition of the long and exceptional'services he has rendered to the associations and settlers whose interests he always Had so deeply at heart. A memorial ■ worthy of tho man should be erected;" A special appeal is bein» made to the N<stv Zealand Sheep Breeders' Association, the Romney. Marsh Sheep Breeders' Association (of both of which the. late Mr. Whe.eler was the president), the Hereford Cattio Breeders' Association (of which ho was a . past. president), and tho. Oroua County ...Council (of which ho was for •twenty-three,yeaTS a .member, and many, ypars chairman). . . The committee which has the matter in hand.consists of Messrs. D. P. Buchanan (Beaconsfield), A. Conway (Kiwitea, president of tho Manawatu A. aiid P- Association), and E. Short (Waitnna West).
