STATEMENT BY THE GOVERNOR. His Excellency the Governor, Lord Islington, publishes the following statement in connection with the movement for the presentation of a Coronation gift to His Majesty King George. V, from the "Georges" of the Kmpiro:— "A project has been set on foot, and is meeting with wide acceptance at Home, to ask those of His Majesty's subjects in every part of the British Empire who bear the Christian name of 'George,' to unite in sending a gift to His Majesty on the occasion of his forthcoming Coronaton. The executive committee formed to carry out tho scheme is composed of tho following:— "Lord Curzon of Kcddleston; His Excellency Earl Grey (Governor-General of Canada); Lord George Ilamilton; Eight Hon. Sir George Reid (High Commissioner for Commonwealth); Earl of Stradbroke; Admiral Sir George Warrender. "The above committee hns already formed an, organisation in ench county at Home to carry out the work, and they liavo written to me, as they have to Governors in the other Dominions, asking mo to take what steps I can to bring the project before those in New Slealanrt who boar the name of 'George,' thus to afford them an opportunity, should *tcy fool ?o disposed, of joining in the gift. In order thnt as many persons as possible may be able to do 30, it is proposed that subscriptions should bo accepted from one penny up to five pounds. A list of the names of tho donors, but not the amount, given by each, will be presented to the Kins. "The proposal has only just oomo to hand by mail, leaving but a l'eiv weeks before the subscription list is closed on .Tune 1. Time is, therefore, so limited that it does not permit of any arrangement being suggested in the nature of an' effective organisation throughout the diffevent districts of New Zealand, for collecting subscriptions. I am. therefore, compelled lo confine myself to nfaking public this appeal, through the courtesy 0.1 the press, to all these who may wish to join in this movement, to enable them to send, with their name and adrtress, their subscription to the 'Georg6 Fund,' Bnnk of Now Zealand, Wellington. "The fund will close, and the results will be cabled Home, on the first of June. Subsequently a list of all donors, with their addresses in New Zealand, will be forwarded to His Majesty the King."
