TECHNICAL SCHOOL.
MEETING OF THE BOARD. * The monthly meeting of the- "Wellington Technical School Board was held last evening,-: thoro being present: Tho chairman (Mr. D. Robertson), • and Messrs. J. P. Luke, M.P., Wm. Allan, D. M'Larcn, M.P., J'. Smith, W. H. Field, M.P., and J. E. Fitzgerald. The statement of finances disclosed a debit balance of £936 10s.. As a set-off thero were outstanding accounts totalling £914, It was decided to call for applications for tho positions .of assistantinstructor in tho commercial classes, at £120 per annum, and of science, master, at'£2so. On tho suggestion of tho director (Mr. La Trobe), the classes in elementary electricity and magnetism, and in geometry and mechanical drawing, each of which had become unwieldy in size —thero b?ing now 35 students in tho former and 45 in the latter—it was decided to divide thorn, assigning one night a week to the respective sections ofeach class. It was also agreed to establish a class in commercial geography, and- to appoint an instructor for one night a week. A grant of £30 was received from tho Education Department for 100 pic-ture-frames for the art classes in connection with the Coronation Exhibition ; also a grant of £144 for._ additional equipment for the engineering classes. Referring to the Government's approval of a grant of £39 for tho rent of additional accommodation for classes —equal to 30s. per week for six months —the Department suggested that it might be better for the school to provide the required accommodation by erecting temporary workshops, using the accommodation thus set free for class purposes. The matter was referred to the Finance Committee.
