The votes cast upon the half-holiday issuo supply the most convenient basis upon which to frame an estimate of the total number of city electors who recorded their votes. In the combined half-holiday district 18,605 votes were cast. _ Of these 16,951 were recorded in the city. As there were a number of. informal votes and a certain proportion of electors declined to vote upon the half-holiday issue, Mr. Ames, the Returning Officer, compute's that fully 17,500 persons voted in Wellington on Wednesday. This, he states, constitutes a record for municipal polling in any part of the Dominion.
The Returning Officer states that 225 persons were employed in connection with tho election. Of these 73 were corporation officers; Tho cost of the election for poll clerks, returning officers, and express hire was £375. Mr. Ames. states that he gave employment to practically every man who offcrea his services, so that but for the assistance of the corporation staff it would havo been impossible to get through the work. ■'■•'
Mr. John Fuller, junr., desires to thank electors for their generous support at tho recent elections.
