Archdeacon H. W. Harper, of Canterbury, is a passenger by the Orient liner Osterley, due at Sydney at 1 tho ciid of this week.'
There,was a largo attendance of offi-iccrsla'-Hlie, funefel of''Mr. C. C. Robertson, late telegraph engineer of the Post and Telegraph Department. All branches of tho Department were represented, and among the mourners wero the Hon. T. Mackenzie, Acting-Postmas-ter-General, Messrs. Robertson, Secretary; Morris, Assistant-Secretary; Orchiston, Chief Telegraph Engineer, and other superior officers. The pall-bear-ers were Messrs. John Black, late controller of stores, T. Kirker, I. Hyams, and G. Levy.
Mr. J. W. M'Ewan has been appointed chairman of the Charitable Aid Committee of the Wellington Hospital Board.
Mr. J. F. Rogers, general secretary of the Hobart Y.M.C.A. and formerly of Wellington, has been appointed physical director of tlio Brisbane Association. /
After the annual meeting of St. Peter's Church last night, Messrs. Anderson, Wilberfoss, and Dr. Fife were elected synodtjinen for tho year.
At the annual meeting of St. Peter's Church last night Archdeacon Harper said that he was sure ho was only expressing the general feeling when' ho spoke, of the thankfulness they experienced for the good work done by Bishop Wallis and tho sorrow they felt to lose him, especially when they knew tho serious state of tho Bishop's health. The new Bishop would meet with a hearty welcome.
The death occurred yesterday of Mr. John Dent, of" M'Farlane Street, aged 66 years.
: Mr. Charles E. Fisher, whose sudden death in Hill Street on Monday was recorded yesterday, was born in England sixty-nine years ago. and arrived at Auckland during tho Maori War. He was a builder by trade, and for some years was employed by Messrs. Murdoch and Rox as their foreman, in which capacity ho acted in connection with several largo city buildings in Wellington. Ho leaves an invalid wife and a married daughter (Mrs. William Hartley, of Waripori Street, Wellington, . '
Yesterday afternoon, Mr. Martin Kennedy received the following cablegram from the Irish delegates at Hobart:— "Have just arrived Hobart. fiend you heartiest greetings. Sailing to-night for Wellington." The message is signed by tho three envoys.
Sergeant Kelly, of the Lambton Quay Polico Station, has been appointed instructor at the Police Training Depot, Wellington South, in succession to Sergeant Dart, recently transferred to New Plymouth. During bis nineteen years' service, Sergeant Kelly has been stationed at Wellington, Auckland, and Kelson. He was promoted to bis present rank about four years ago.
