JUDGING SHEEP BY POINTS.
FEILDING PROPOSAL. At a meeting of the General Committee of the Feilding A. and P. Association, the subcommittee set, up for the purpose maile the following ''recommendation as a remit to the Agricultural Confer-cnce:-r-That it be a recommendation to A. and P. associations that all judging , of sheep be doiio on points on the following basis,, namely, that an equal number ot' points be allotted for'character, symmetry, and wool respectively. Mr. BiirreU supported the idea, saying if. judges, wem to. give tha reasons, why they gave their awards in a certain way, it.would be much more satisfactory, and would be of great benefit and encouragement to young breeders. ilr. Short also agreed that the idea was a good one, but it would be difficult to have it carried out. He had offered a prizo in Palmerston for sheep to ■ l>9 judged on points, and three judges each gave ths maximum number of points for character to a sheep which should not have' received within ten points of the maximum. Hβ would like to see it carried out, but was afraid it would.ba very difficult to have it satisfactorily . done. Jfr; Eeid said the trouble would be to have it carried ont. He had asked a judge the reason for turning down a certain sheep.-and-the judge , said: "Did you-put-that sheep in tho competition?" "Yes," replied the exhibitor. "Well, you ought to be ashamed of yourself," said the judge. (Loud laugbter.) "That was air the satisfaction I could get," concluded Mr. ; Eeid. ...... .
