ELECTION NOTICES. DR. CAMERON'S PLATFORM FOR CITY COUNCIL. INDEPENDENT CANDIDATE. I. REDUCTION OF COST OF LIVING.—High cost of living ono of the main causes crippling our industries and manufactories; also of race suicide and racial degeneration. 1. Co-operation with Government to prevent trusts or monopolies, e.g., land, timber, brick, pipe, oil, flour, meat, and other Trusts forcing up tho price of living. 2. Establishment of Municipal Markets, bringing producer and consumer into direct dealing, and thereby saving middleman's profits and charges. I will firmly oppose the present market site being used for this purpose, it being too expensive and absolutely unsuitable. 3. Encouragement of local industries and manufacturers. i. Competent business-like management of all affairs under Municipal control —property, trams, etc., 5. Representatives of tho Council ou the Hospital and Harbour Boards should see that these bodies carry out their duties in a competent and businesslike manner. 6. City Council representatives in Parliament should give careful consideration to all Customs duties ou. the necessaries of life. 7. Prevention of undue taxation. 8. Sound finance and uo borrowing on short-dated debentures and avoidance of City Council "dabbling"' in matters that it knows little about. 9. Avoidance of "bungling" such as has' gono on in tho past. 11. LABOUR QUESTION.-'Tair play to man and master." Avoidance of class hatred and sectarian strife, for such' can only lead to the "tying up" of capital, strikes and slumps. Encourage industrious and competent men to stay in the servico of the Council by a proper system of promotion, payment, and superannuation. Day labour where possible in" place of contracts. 111. SANITATION.-Early extension of drainage to outlying districts, Mnranui, Northland, Vogeltown, Wadestown, etc. Enforcement of necessary sanitary improvements in slum areas, etc., but not by unduly oppressive means' to any owners who may be weak financially. Cooperation between the Council and Gov-' ornment for providing better play-, grounds for our school children. IV.-TRAMAVAYS-Efficicnt management. Fares as cheap as possible- consistent with a sufficient amount being set aside for depreciation, repairs, etc. Indecent overcrowding to bo prevented. liloro care to-be taken lo avoid accidents and subsequent municipal liability. Extensions and straightening of line's to be gone on with, provided consistent with sound finance. Better shelter sheds. V. STREETS, ROADS, ETC.-AYood-blockiug to be gone on with. Better class of metal to be used on roads. Better lighting and naming of streets in outlying districts. Clearance of streets of "undesirables." VI. MILK SUPPLY to bo improved. I will endeavour to obtain a reliable supply for infants, invalids, etc. ■ VII. ELECTRIC LIGHT AND POWER to be supplied as cheap as possible. VIII. TOWN PLANNING to receive careful consideration, and I therefore advocate the formation of more Ratepayers' and kindred Associations, so that "each district may make a careful study of its requirements. Formation of "Trades Area." Prevention of. depreciation of locality by unsightly or undesirable buildings being put there. IX. All meetings on public business, except where matters of a strictly personal nature are to bo discussed, to bo open to tho Press. X. I maintain that tho Government should contribute .its shate for the upkeep' of, tho Firo "Brigade.' XI. I am strongly opposed to ovcrmunicipalisation and too much interference (even by the Government) with the liberties of the citizens."l will 'oppose Municipal' Theatres, Bakeries, etc.- .'• _ XII. I am opposed to the Council tak-, ing oyer the Gas Company. Gas and electricity will bo cheaper and bettermanaged if kept competing. • XIII. I am absolutely opposed to the City Council doing its own fire and other insurancing, and starting in opposition to tho State and existing companies. XIV. I consider that at present there is no necessity for a Municipal Labour Agency, but that vacancies should be notified to Trades Hall, State- Bureau, etc. XV. I will insist on a reasonable amount of City Reserves being maintained or acquired for the future requirements of the city. XVI. I am opposed to the City Council s past policy, oi putting, -up a statue one day," then pulling it down "tho next," and similar fca,ts. . XVII. GENERAL WORKS to receive consideration as soon as finances will allow. Construction of Hot Sea Baths. Traffic Tunnel to south-eastern districts. Refreshment Kiosks to be built at Botanical Gardens and Newtown Park and leased yearly. I will endeavour to make Wellington a moro popular residential city and holiday resort". Formation of Public Tennis Courts and a Public Golf Course to provide suitable recreation for women, etc., and to help the medical profession to treat consumptives'in Wellington, without having to send them away from home. XVIII. As I pay about £1 per week in rates and taxes, the citizens can rest assured that I know what rates and taxes are. As my professional duties take mo almost daily into almost every part of the city, and its. suburbs, I know well the state of tho roads and the requirements of each district. I am daily in contact' with rich and poor, and know their wants, and therefore I stand as an Independent Candidate to see that all classes get fair play. . Wellington, Gth April, 1911.
