Claude, who.acted with such conspicuous courage and presence 'of mind in averting a collision between atrain and the- 'Main Trunk: ex-:-prc~ss near' Westfiold on' Monday night iastj has,been, the recipient of a large number of letters from passengers and ■ relatives of passengers travelling by tho express, gratefully acknowledging the singular services which he rendered on the occasion mentioned. Included in the number i 3 a letter from Lord Islington, dated April 2. It is as follows :-—' ■

"It was not until; this morning that I was placed in possession of tho in connection with tho providential escape from a serious accident that I and my fellow passengers had on Monday night during our journey on tho Main Trunk express, and that escape was due to tho courage, decision, and presence of mind, displayed in so singular a manner, by tho action which you took on the occasion, thus averting what would, in all probability, have been,a very'serious accident. I desire, on my own behalf and those of my staff who accompanied mo, to tender to yon our expression of deep appreciation and gratitude for the splendid service which you rendered ,us, together with 'all tho ■ other occupants of tho train, by your prompt and masterly action. Tho letter concludes: "As my car on tho occasion happened to be next to the engine, I feel particularly indebted to i you for your invaluable services."
