RAID OX HATS STARTED. (From Our Special Correspondent.) Palmerston, April 11. An adjourned mcutina of tho I'rofesBiouul Musicians' Society was lipid last evening, air. U. "\V. Niiylor presiding. Tlic following officers wore elected :— President, .\h. G. \V. Maylor; vicc])resideiits, Herr lierger and .Mr. A. Orew; secretary, Maritime 1). B. Harris; committee, Mesdames Kielmrds, Hawson, and Brown, with other officers ex oflieio. A committee was set up to draft rules, and these are to be submitted at the next meeting. The score--tary reported that there were now twelve members, mill it was decided to have the society registered. A meeting of the Citizens' League was held last evening, the president (Mr. It. S. Abraham) being in the chair. Thi) resignation of Jlr. C. S. Spoaner (secretary), owing to pressure of business, was received, and Mr. J. R. L. Freeman was appointed to fill the vacancy. Committees were Fot up to work in the interests of. the league's candidates for tli<> borough election, and a quantity of routine business was dealt with. A civic reception was accorded Mr. C. H. Churchill, of the Order of Rcchalntos, who is touring the Dominion in the interests of the Order, :.«tstcrday afternoon. .There was only a very small attendance. The Palmerstoii borough authorities have decided to make a raid on rats. Tho Health Department has suggested to all boroughs that some action should bo taken in this direction, and lias offered to supply poison if the local authorities will put on men to see that the poison is properly laid. Tho Mayor mentioned tho matter to an informal meeting of the council yesterday afternoon, and, in view of the plague eases at Auckland, it was thought "advisable to take steps to reduce the number of rodents in Palmerstoii; Court Mamuvntu, A.0.F., lield its fortnightly meeting last, night, when 'there was a good attendance. Bio. Rosanowski, C.8., occupied ihe chair. Bros. Weir and Pattern were appointed deputy-woodwards. Tho quarterly bal-ance-sheet showed that there had been a profit of £30 on the, past three 1 months' work. Two new members were initiated, and one proposed. The Mayor is to call a public meeting shortly, with the object of securing signatures to an address, to Queen Mary on tho occasion of tho Coronation. Sister Margaret Jrunieson, who lias recently been ordained a deaconess of the Methodist Church, and is about to take up mission work in Papua, was entertained by members of the church last night, prior. to leaving for her new sphere of work. Several presentations were made- by the teachers of the Sunday school, the Junior Christian Endeavour Society, anil a rug and travellingbag by the .members of the congregation. ■
