REBELS AT THE WALLS.
FRENCH ARTILLERY RELIEVE THE SITUATION.
SULTAN'S PALACE IN DANGER (By Telegraph—Press Association Copyrleht! (Rec. April 10, 10.50 p.m.) Tangier, April 10. Three thousand Berber tribesmen, after unsuccessfully attacking tho south-east-ern walls of Fez, the Moorish capital, where the Sultan lies besieged by rebels, retired, and, skirting the southern hills, renewed the attack in tho afternoon near the Sultan's palace, in the south-west of the town.
The rebels were well within the ranse of tho artillery, which,' under Colonel Mangin, of the French military mission, maintained a heavy cross fire, driving tho tribesmen on to the plains to the westward. ATTITUDE OF THE POWERS. FRANCE AND SPAIN ALERT. Madrid, April 9. Senor Garcia Prieto, Spanish Minister f6r Foreign Affairs, stated in the Senate that Spain and France had offered each other mutual and efficient support in Morocco. Senor Canalejas, the Premier, in the Chamber of Deputies, said that France had intimated that the time had come to make preparations in anticipation of events in Morocco. The Spanish Government would take all requisite measures with regard to Spanish possessions and wherever Spanish instructors were stationed. PROTECTION OF EUROPEANS. Paris, April 9. The French Minister for Foreign Affairs, 31. Cruppi, speaking in the Senate, said that if the situation at Fez became difficult, the French Government would take necessary measures within the provisions cf the Algcciras Act to ensure the security of Europeans there.
