A "SUPPER" AND OTHEK MATTERS. (By Teleiraph-Press Association.} Gore, April fi. At the court this morning James Jackson Munro was charged that on February 23 he kept premises occupied by him as a place of resort for the consumption of intoxicating liquor. Counsel said' the charge was laid under Section 37 of the Act of 1910, and was probably the first dealt with under this section. The facts were that a gentleman arranged for an oyster supper in Munro's saloon for a party. A parcel of liquor was dispatched to the saloon, and was found by the police, who had defendant's assurance that he did not intend to have any more liquor transactions. Ho submitted that a small lino would meet the case, and act as a warning io others. The magistrate said accused was liable to a penalty of JJ2O per day, but this being the first case of the kind he would deal with defendant in a 'enicnt manner. In future convictions, however, the line would be substantial. JUimro wa? fined ,£3 and costs. A further charge of keeping liquor for sale was withdrawn.

Mary Ann Byron, similarly charged pleaded guilty. H was stated Mint'the case was similar, except Hint the premises worn defendant's own hniisc, and *ho wished to explain that the liquor was intended for consumption by her husband and three sons. A fine of '£?> and costs (75.) was inflicted. A further charge of keeping liquor for sale was withdrawn.
