MENZIES GOLD THIEF.
CONSTABLE'S NARROW ESCAPE. By Telegraph-Press Association-Copyrieht Perth, April 5. Further 'details are to hanil of the attempted robbery of a bag containing ,£2OO worth of slimes from the Meazies Goldmine. The constable whom the thief 'fired at on being intercepted as he was escaping on a bicycle had a button cut off by one. shot, and a hole cut in his coat .by the second. The, constable, who was unarmed, returned to tho police station, and came back with a companion. They discovered that the robber had returned and secured .his abandoned bicyclo and the bag containing tto slimes. As he failed to obey tho constables' order to stand, the police fired three shots at him and he again 'abandoned the bicycle and tho slimes, and escaped.
