MAN WHO MAY BOX JOHNSON.
ARRIVES IX AUCKLAND. (By Telegraph.-Pross Association.) Auckland, April 6. "Jack" Lester, who "Tommy" Burns claims is the next man to regain the championship of the world for the white race irom "Jack" Johnson, arrived in, Auckland by the Taluno from the Islands this morning. Lester, who is to meet Lang in Sydney on April Iβ, under Sir. H. D. M'lntosl/s management, left San Francisco for laliiti by the Maripnfn, which it was thought would land him in Sydney in plenty of time to train for his light with Lang, but the route proved to he the Umgost, for Lester only reached Auckland Ins morning, and cannot get to Sydney before next week, A postponement of the fight for at least a month will be necessary. In a talk to-day, Lester, who is a quiet, unassuming young fellow (his facial appearance reminding one of his manager and trainer, "Tommy" Burns), said that no had hud no chance to do any training oa the way across, as the boats were too small, and, as he suffered somewhat from sea-sickness, he is at present a long way below form. The visit to Australia is principally for the purpose of gaining ring experience, aud, in addition to meeting Lang, Mr. M'lntosh has, promised him two oilier matches, but bis opponents are nor yet Known. He expects to be in Australia for some months, and will then return to America in about twelve months. Burns will then pit him against the champion, "Jack" Johnson. Lester, who was born in Bessemer. He has been at the boxing game for about three years, and, in amateur and professional ranks, has fought 30 fights, and has not tasted defeat. Ho holds the title of the Pacific Coast champion. His last fight was with "Pete -, Jliildoon, a fast, clever man, whom he defeated in three rounds. "Tommy" Burns, who will train and ninnago Lester, is on his way to Sydney by the Vancouver route, and Lester will meet him in the New South Wales capital.
