GOVERNMENT DOING ALL POSSIBLE. By Telegraph-Press Association-Copyright' Sydney, April 5. A deputation presented Senator Pearce, Federal Minister for Defence, with copies of resolutions recently passed at a public meeting in favour of a more vigorous defence policy. Mr. Pearce replied that the Government was doing all it intended to do-all that was possible to push on the adequate defence of tho country. They had "bitten off just as much as they could chew." He added that tho Government had gone as far, or further, than public opinion.

THE NAVY POLICY. Sydney, April 5. The Governor-General, Lord Dudley, speaking at the launch of the new destroyer Wan-ego, said he had never doubted that if the creation of an Australian Navy was conducted in a wise, broadminded spirit, it would be the best policy for both the Bmpiro and Australia. •Mrs. Pearce, wife of the Minister for Defence, in christening tho vessel, added: "In time of daDger may tby movements bo swift."
