(By ToleeraDh.-SDCcial Correspondent.) Wanganui, April 5. The greater part of tho preliminary work in connection with the construction of the Cionville-Castlecliff tramway line, has been finished, and it: will practically be completed when tho first shipment of sleepers arrive next week. .A start will then be immediately made on the track itself, and, thereafter, there will be constant arrivals of gear as required. The Tramway Board expects to have the line opened i'or traffic before next Christmas. For running down a Chinese hawker by driving his cart against him, and upsetting his stock-in-trade and spoiling it,George Cullen (whom the magistrate thought must have been under the influence of liquor) was this morning fined •£2, witnesses "expenses Us., interpreter's fee 10s. Cd., and was also ordered to pay 30s. compensation to the Chinaman.
