OUR WEST COAST LETTER.
AMBULANCE SOCIETY, ' (From Our Special Correspondent.) With the two-fold object of making; tho administration more effective, and of increasing efficiency, the Ambulance Society's districts on the West Coast have been reorganised. The Grey corps, comprising the Greymouth nursing division, the Greymouth A division, Reefton A division, and all other divisions in the Grey County •will be under tho immediate supervision of Assistant-Chief Superintendent Wilson, whilst tho Wcstland corps, consisting of Hokitika A division, Hokitika nursing division, Ross A division, and all other divisions in the Westland County will be controlled by Assist-ant-Chief Superintendent Grant.
A FAREWELL AT KUMARA. A "social" was held in' the Adelphi Theatre, Kumara, for the purpose of bidding good-bye to Mr. and Mrs. W. 15. Gilbert, who are taking up their residence in Greymouth. Tho hall was crowded. Progressive euchre occupied the early part of tho evening. The ladies' prize was won by Mrs. Spiers, and tho gentlemen's by Mr. H. Honey. Tho Mayor delivered a speech in which he made very complimentary reference to Mr. Gilbert, who, during his residence in Kumarn, had filled ninny offices of trust with credit to himself and satisfaction to the public.
DOBSON QUARRY. ■It has been decided by the Government that Dobson quarry stone shall be used in the erection of tho Supreme Courthouse at Greymouth. This stone has proved a success in the new Wellington Post Office, and in other public buildings in Christchurch and elsewhere.
GREYMOUTH JOCKEY CLUB. The nominations for the first day of tho Easter meeting of the Greymouth Jockey Club closed.last week, and proved a record, there being no fewer than eightynine for tho seven events on the programme. Of these, four wero from Blenheim, four from the North Island, and four,from Christchurch. The handicaps were announced on March 29, and acceptances close on April 8.
THE LATE MR, E. I. LORD. The funeral of Mr. E. I. Lord, late Town Clerk of Greymouth, took place at Karoro Cemetery. The cortege, was headed by members of the local Masonic Lodges, and included representatives from all parts of the district. Mr. Lord was born near Hobart, Tasmania, in 18)3, his grandfather, Captain Edward Lord, R.N., having acted as Governor of Tasmania from 1810 to 1812. After having qualified as a civil engineer, he came to New Zealand, where ho entered the Public Works Department. In 1875 ha was appointed district surveyor at Greymouth, a position which ho held ten years. He then became Town Clerk and Borough Engineer at Greymouth, and resigned these offices only a fen- days before his death. Mi-. Lord was a member of the High School Board of Governors, a P.M. of (lie Greymouth Masonic Lodge, E.G., a member of the Royal Arch Chapter, a director of the Permanent Building Societv and "Evening Star" Company.
