(From Our Special Correspondents.) t £ ; OTAKI. The annual general meeting of the Otaki Hockey Club was held on Friday evening in the Druids' Hall. Mr. C. L. Hartmann (president) occupied the chair. On account of the change of secretaryship no annual report was presented, but the balance-sheet showed the satisfactory credit of £6 Os. 3d. The following were elected officer-bearers for the ensuing year President, Mr. C. L. Hartmann; vice-presidents, Messrs. L. St. George, Arthur Bright, W. 31. Simcox, Frank Penn, and H. Nicholson; secretary and treasurer, Mr. T. M'Call; captain, Mr. T. H. Bright; vice-captain, Mr. George Noble; Management Committee, Messrs. Harold Cockrell, — Howell, .T. Livesay, and the captain, vice-captain, and secretary; Match Committee, Mr. H. Nicholson, captain and vice-captain; delegates, to union,- Mr. Cockrell and the secretary. It was dccided that a conference should be held with the Ealiui Club regarding certain money • collccted last year. A letter was received from the ITui Mai Club (Wellington) asking for a match on Easter Monday. As the letter did not state where the Hui Mai Club wished the match was to be played, the match was ■ left in abeyance. It was decided that a recommendation be made to the union to arrange" for as many representative matches as possible during the coming season. Messrs. Cockrell and .Nicholson were appointed a Committee to 'confer with t.he Domain Board regarding the use of the ground. A lawn tennis match between the Otaki B team and Paraparaumu took placo on tho Otaki courts on Saturday, tho local club winning by ten sets to five. The pame was played in glorious weather, and tho outing proved an, enjoyable ono. Tho visitors were entertained at lunch and afternoon tea. 'The .'Rev. Father De Lach leaves todnv for Papawai to take part in the unveiling of the statue of the late chieftain, Tamahau Mahupuku.
PAHIATUA. An enjoyable tennis match was played on Saturday last between teams repieieiuing Palmerston Aorth and Pahiatua. Tlie courts were in excellent condition, and sorno got.d"games were witnessed. The visitors' put Up a good fight, but wore eventually defeated by 12 sets to 8. The holders of the Dixon Challenge Cup (a Fcilding team) have been challenged by a quartet of local bowlers—Messrs. W. H. Hawkins, ]■'. Sayers, J. Osborne-Lilley, and J. A. Walsh. If the challenge is accepted the match will take place at Fcilding on Wednesday, April 5. At a special meeting of the Pahiatua County Council held on Saturday last it was clecided by resolution to readjust the ridings from five (as at present) to ivinc. A meeting will be held on Saturday next to fix the boundaries. A meeting of the Pahiatua-Akitio Agricultural and Pastoral Association will be held this evening to consider the report of the Finance Committee in connection with the proposal to purchase a site for a show ground. The Wellington Farmers' Meat Company have established an agency at Pahiatua. Mr. J. A. W.ilsli has been ap'pointed their lepresentative. The question of selecting a candidate in Hie Opposition interest for the forthcoming general election has been discussed rather freely hero of late, and a. meeting for that, purpose will he held in a few days. Major B"lton and Messrs. H. T. EHinghani and T. Hodgins are mentioned as likely candidates. GREYTOWN. A special meeting of the Grevtown Council was held on' Monday evening, when tho new rates were struck. Mr. E. Ircsou was appointed road overseer, and Mr. T. Bilbv sanitary contractor, lamplighter, and ranger. The burgess roll was duly signed. It was decided to widen the bridge across the Papawai C'reek, so that motor-cars may cross, this alteration to be effected nn the condition that tho Maoris pay .£5 towards the cost. Seeing that there will be a large number of children absent from school on Thursday next in order to attend the Maori ceremony at Papawai, it has been decided lo close the school for the day. The local shops will close at 10 a.m. Roads in the district are breaking up good deal, as the result of dry weather, l'ain is badly wanted to lay the dust.
