METROPOLITAN CLUB'S REPORT. The.following is the second annual report of the Metropolitan Hockey Club which will be presented at the club's meeting this evening:—"Your committee congratulate members on having entersd teams for the senior, junior, and thirdgrade competitions. Owing to a want of training and various other causes it is to be regretted that the senior team did not succeed in winning any of their games, the most creditable performance standing to their credit being the drawn game with United Club seniors. The junior team were hardly expected to repeat 'the 'performance of the previous 6eason in winning the championship, but under the captaincy of Jlr. C. D. Mill, did remarkably well considering circumstances. The third-grade team succeeded in winning most of their matches and, with a little luck, would probably have carried off the top position in their grade. During the season a mixed team from the club journeyed to Alasterton and played the senior team of thj Knox Club, being defeated by 2 goals to nil. It'is to be hoped that our opponents will return the-visit this season in order to give us.an opportunity of returning their hospitality. It is to be regretted that, owing to the number of games played for the Challenge Shield, the senior competition was sadly interfered wjth, and there is a strong feeling amongst the various 'clubs affiliated to the Wellington Hockey Association, that these games should be limited. Club games -are more important to hockey players generally, and it is to be hoped that our delegates to tho association will be instructed to bring the matter up al' the annual meeting. Owing to -the fornnit inu of new clubs and various other reasons, it is to bo hoped that special efforts will be made to ihdUi&'Wfr.'playefs to join the club. The' l/alaiicS-sheet • shows a credit balance of £2 195..' while we have also a miantity of. material on hand. It is pleasing to record tho fact that, with -two exceptions, all members have paid the.annual subscriptions. The thanks of the club are duo to Messrs. C. J. Crawford. H. E. NicliOlls, R. A. Wright, and F. M. B. Fisher, fot kindly assistance rendered. ■
