CENSOR FOR MOVING PICTURES. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) New Plymouth, March 2S. Tho following resolutions were passed at the W.C.T.U. Convention to-day:— 1. That the W.C.T.U., in convention assembled, expresses entire sympathy with tho efforts oeing mado to provide scientific .practical instruction in domestic economy, and views with much pleasure the foundation of 11 Chair of Homo. Economies at Otago University. 2. That they most heartily endorse tho proposals of the Cliristcliurch branch for tho more thorough training in domestic economy of all girls in tho Dominion. 3. That in view of the fact that exhibitions of moving pictures, which aro so popular with all ages and classes of the community, may cither bo of great educational value both to tho head and heart, or be subtle, but effective, teachers of immorality and vice, the women of the W.C.T.U. urge on the Government the need of appointing' a censor to examine all films proposed to bo publicly exhibited. ■1. That the convention desires to record its appreciation of the work of Sir Joseph Ward and Dr. Findlay in securing tho repeal of the C.D. Act, and also wishes to emphasise the great need of more thorough systematic teaching of the laws of health, and a more persistent affirmation of the necessity of purity of .life, both of men and women. 5. That tho convention urges tho Prime Minister to bring in a Bill making it as compulsory to register births, deaths, and marriages amongst the Maoris as among Europeans. 0. It having been brought under our notice that gambling is still carried on by Maori youths under 21, our convention emphatically protests, and urges tho Government to strictly enforce,tho law. 7. Also, it having been brought under our notice that liquor is still being supplied to youths under 21, and also to Maori women, regardless of tho law, the convention ■ emphatically protests, and urges that the matter bo brought under the notice of the Minister for Justice and his subordinates.
