THE LAST SIGHTING.
IN HEAVY GALE AND RAIN. A DANGEROUS POSITION. Brisbane, March 28. Captains of vessels arriving from tho north report that there was a severe cyclonic storm, with blinding rain, at the time tho missing inter-State liner Yongala was oil' Dent Island, where she was last sighted. Tho island is beset by reefs. The captains do not tako a hopeful view of '.he probability of the steamer having been able to head out seaward. Tho owners aro hopeful, however, Tho Yongala is staunch and well found, and- in chargo of an experienced captain. They hold the opinion that the machinery may have broken down, or that tho vessel is sheltering among the outlying islands of the Barrier Reef. Besides seven hundred tons of coal, there is an equal quautity of cargo aboard. Tho passengers include ten from Sydney. Tho Yongala was built for her present owners in 1303 by Messrs. Armstrong, Whitworth, and Co., of the Tyno. Her principal measurements are Length, 350 feet; breadth, 45.2 feet: depth, 35.5 feet. Captain Knight has been in command of her sinco 1907. Tho Adelaide Steamship Company owns a licet of 30 vessels.
