c MONTHLY MEETING. The monlhiy meeting of Hie Wellington Education Board iva:> held yesterday, there being present: The chairman (Mr, If. Lee), mid Jlcssrs. 11. JiJrlcr, Kebbell, A. W. Jlo B g, M.P., W. H. I'iold, M.P., W. C. Buchanan, J1.1'., \Yni. Allan, and J. G. W. Aiiken. THE BOARD'S FINANCES. The statement of finances, provision for Iho pny-slieot being taken into accoum, disclosed a credit balance of A'lol7 2s. lid. The previous month's tlalemcni showed a balance of ,l") 2!) Is. Id. on the debit sille.'The chairman expressed himself as boin'g highly satisfied with the condition of the board's linnnccs, though the actual credit balance was. not us large as that shown, certain payments having still to bs taken into account. The building account, w.liich. in past years had run into tho thousands, was now under ,£2OO. Viewing the situation as it now was. tho speaker said that the finances of the board sJiould in the future be in permanently sound condition. SCHOOL WORKS AND SUPPLIES. On the recommendation of tlic Work# and Finance Committee, the board rc> salved that the grants for works anc schcol supplies be authorised for the schools at Jlaraiuli, South Wellington, Waikauac (residence), Taita, Clarovillo (residence), Khandallah, Kaiwaiwai, ICopuaranga (re'sidouce), Jlartinborough (residence, etc.), Scarborough (residente), Petone, Rongokokako, Whitsman's Val•ley, Roseneath, Newinqn, and Akitio. Decisions were also arrived at villi respect to tho following schools:— Ivopuaranga—Secretary to discuss with' the health officer the committee's application for installation of wptic tank. Epuni—Clerk of works to visit,and arrange for filling the depression in tho school ground. Native College, Otaki— I The report of tho clerk" of works to be forwarded to the Department and to the Porirua Trustees, and that, as recommended by tho clerk of works, application bo madfl for a gi'ant for improvement of cookery building at Otaki. > South Wellington (drainage, etc.)— The secretary to discuss the matter.with the , school committee secretary, and 'if necessary the clerk of works to make a comprehensive report oil tho drainage. Petone (drainage, C Barlow)— Tilt • clerk of works to again visit and'report; . a copy of tlve letter of Mr Barlow is : to • bo transmitted to the coniniitteo 1 for au expression of opinion. . Petone West—The board is unable to make a further grant for exhibits, Levin—The accounts for . the drainage were passed. Petone Technical School—That inquiry, is to be made regarding the gas account.' ; Fongaroa—The secretary is to obtain a definite o,fTer from Mr. Gould, and in the event of its being suitable, application 'ii to lie.made to the Department for a sum -sufficient to purchase and improve the building offered for purposes of a teach-. er's residence. ' . ' Applications are to be made for residences at Alt'redton and Waterfalls, . both as recommended by the inspectors. Jobnsonville School site—The Town Board is to be informed that the board is prepared to sell the old site, Johnsonville, -with the building - thereon, at a fresh valuation to be determined by tlio Government, valuer. Levin (Sections 3 arid, I—The matter to be left in tho hands of Mr. ICebbell and the secretary. _ ■ Library subsidy (South Wellington)—A subsidy of JC2 10s. is to be granted. ' TENDERS ACCEPTED. 'irotman), ■£"96 ' ' ' : * !V ' TSrORiIAL'SCHOOL. ; On the recommendation of the Committee of .'Advice of the Normal Training College, the principal was authorised to communicate.. the ..several ..boards with a view to Normal School trainees, " who have completed tli'eir oourse being • .oii'or.ed employment in tho districts froiu which they entered the!" Training 'College.' 1 ;. _ ■; Tho board resolved that, it be a recommendation to the Education Department that students should l>e at liberty to receive 5-e'muneritlifln for work done during the recess of the Training College. The salary of the Instructor of the Rural Course was approved, to be as from the date of appointment in Grade 2: J!120 to .£l5O. Application, is to be made to . theEducation Boards of Otago' and Auckland for loan of plans of college buildings.
