CITY ROLL CLOSED.
A'TOTAL OP' 29,554. Precisely at five o'clock last evening tho enrolment oiiice at tho Town Hall was closed, and at least one citizen, who arrived too late to enrol, was left dejected on the doorstep. All (lay long there was a steady stream of callers at the office, of whom a great number, certainly a majority, were women. The total number .of application forms handed in yesterday was 1228. The Labour party put in one batch of about Si'O, a parcel of ninety came, it is thought, from a Roman Catholic source, and various other batches of forms came by post and hand from persons who have interested themselves in promoting enrolment. Probably a number of these are either sitting councillors or prospective candidates for election. The supplementary roll now contains 12,810 names, which, with tho 1(5,714 contained in the main roll, brings tho total up to 29,551 yesterday, and yesterday morning a staff of twenty clerks were busily employed in relays in putting tho finishing touches to the supplementary roll, which is expected to bo ready for the printer today. , Yesterday Mr. D. M'Laren, M.P., visited the Nurses' Home and tho Hospital. At each place lie distributed forms. Moreover, he moved tho acting-town clerk (Mr. H. Tait) to have forms sent to the other city institutions devoted to tho sick and needy. The forms wero collected later in the day by ' a council officer, aniT handed in. As a result some ninety names were ndded to the roll. There will be a polling booth at Newtown Library, handy to the Hospital, and it is thought that many patients, though incapable of travelling far, will bo able to vote.
