PETONE BOROUGH COUNCIL.
" cThe Fetone Borough Council met last evening, the Mayor (Mr. J. W. M'Ewan) presiding. Also present were Councillors Short, Harding, Southgate, Brocl viebank, Piper, List, Jones, Trueman, and Young. Writing in reference to a complaint that a portion of I'etone had been flooded owing to the discharge from Everest's Creel: being blocked, the Lower Ilutt Town Clerk stated that the engineer of that borough (Mr. Roche) had investigated the mattrr. The. overflow, according to Mr. Roche's report, was apparently caused by (he blocking of the drain before it reached the Lower Ilutt culvert. However, the engineer had been instructed to look into the matter, and (o take any necessary steps to make owners, ill future, properly clear ' the drain through their property— Received. The Ilutt Park Committee wrote asking the council to pay rates due on the Ilutt Park. Tho Eastbourne Council had paid its share, and if the I'etone Council would do (he same the committee would bo enabled to pay certain amounts agreed on to the Ilutt Council and the "River Board, Councillors seemed to bo in sonic doubt as to tho measure to which the council was liable. It was agreed that the Mayor should look into tho matter and report at next, meeting. The lMone and Melrose Football Clubs applied for permission to use No. 1 ground at the Recreation Reserve for a match on .April 1. The application was supported by the Wellington Rugbv Vnion. Permission was further sought by the Pernio Club to make a charge of sixpence for admission, proceeds to be in aid of their gymnasium funds. The application was granted, with a proviso that the council should receive 5 per cent, of the "gate." Tho I'etone Ladies' Hockev Club applied for tho use of the' Recreation Ground during the present season. The request was granted. I'etone Yorkshiremen applied for the use of a cricket ground on April 8, on which date they propose to play a match against the Yorkshiremen of Wellington Tho request wos granted, subject to' the PoloiKi making arrangements with the Cricket Club? '
