An Afternoon Tea. Mrs. Stafford was the hostess at a small and very enjoyable tea given at her home on ttie Terrace yesterday afternoon for Mrs. Anderson, oi Christchurch. The drawing-room was arranged with very lovely palo pink tiger lilies, and wita sweet peas.' During the afternoon Dr: Plntts-Alills and Mrs. F. 31. B. Fisher sang very delightfully, and Mrs. Ross recited. Mrs. Stafford wore a dress of black .ninoii trimmed with beautiful laco, over black silk. Miss Stafford was in a palo blue- Shantung silk frock with-yoke of cream net, and Miss E. Stafford was in a. white embroidered muslin frock. Mrs. Anderson wore a dull green costume with a large black picture hat. Sortie of those present were Mrs. Gray, Mrs. Field, Mrs; Macarthy, Mrs. Litchfield, Mrs. A. Young, Mrs. Batesdn, Mrs. Millward and others.
A Farewell Tea. Yesterday afternoon Mrs. and Miss Hayward, of the Hutt, entertained a small party at afternoon tea in Messrs.'. Kirkcaldie and Stain's tea-rooms, the guests of honour being Mrs. Bristow and her daughters. A number of tables had been aside and prettily arranged with pale pink sweet peas and feathery grasses. There were ako present Mr.'. Millward, Mrs. and Mies Hunt, the Misses Watson, Miss Simpson, Miss Kennedy, the Misses Wilson, Miss Seed, Mr. W. and Miss Callendar Miss Moss, Mr. Hnyward, and Mr. S. Seddon. Obituary. The death occurred in Wellington on Monday of Mrs. Mari.i Wright, one of Wellington's earliest settlers. The dc-. oeased lady came out t6 Wellington in 1813, in the ship Teresa, following her father, Mr. John King, who had come out with tho pioneers o£ 1810. Mrs. Wright leaves two sons, Mr. C. Wright, of Aratapu, and Mr. G. Wright, of the Land and Survey Department, and two daughters, Mesdames Marchant and Barraud.
Mrs. Johnston (Highden), accompanied by Mrs. Robson. left for Eotorua at the beginning of the week. Miss M.. Wallace is paying several visits to friends 1 and relatives in the Wnirarapa, and is at present the guest of Mrs. C. F. Vallance, KahufflingjU :-..0. Mrs. Palmer, of Fentherston,' is in town, and is staying'at .the Royal Oak. ' Mrs- J. C. Wilkin has returned from a lengthy visit to San Francisco, and after visiting her daughter, Mrs. P. Cook, in Masterton, has now settled in Aucklandi . Mrs. Webster was the hostess at a small tea given for Miss E. Watson and her sister yesterday morning at Messrs. Kirkcaldie and Stains's tea-rooms yesterday morning. Mrs. Marshall who has been visiting Mrs."Gawith, Mrs. John Perry, and other relatives in the Wairarapa, returned to Wellington on Saturday. Major J, G. Hughes and Mrs. Hughes have taken' the house formerly occupied by Mr. fjeobie Mackenzie oil the T,errace. Miss Madge Nathan, who has been sfaying with relatives in Mastertorj, returns tor town early this week. Mrs. J. Ewart, who has been visiting relatives in Wellington, returned to Masterton on Saturday. >
