SHEEP "FAKING."

JIK, MTJNGAVIN'S VIEWS. I Mr. J. Ihingavin, of Porirun, a wellknown Romuoy sheepbreedor, exhibivir. and judge,-stated to a Dominion vepresentalive recently that he feels very strongly upon the subject of.sheep-faking. He,<lces not rest the blame so much upon the associations as. he does upon ;Lc judges. , He is of opinion that "faking" could have been, nippc-tl in the bud n matter of only a very few years ago. He was present, and was an -exhibitor at cne of our foremost shows, when ue drew *he attention of the judge , to'the faci that "trimming" was being 'indulged m ocn while the actual judging was being earned on. Trimming was then only in its infancy, and he was most eiuphuiic in bis protest to the judge. He pointed out to him then that the "faking,", about which the controversy at the.present time is so keen, was suro to follow; and b.\: l\is awarding the prizes to tho slwep ulieh had that day been trimmed, ho was only winking at a dishonest practice rrnl "creating rogues among men who would bt iic-vfsl'.'" Mr. Jiungavin has not had long to ; wait to ; see,.his forecast prove correct Ho is certain that the correspondence ,in The Dominion will do a-great'deal of goijd,' regrets that it will also create a certain amount of ill-feeling that . could easily have been avoided had the.judges taken the stand when they had the power; ' Ue believes in showing sheep. "as -they are.", Certainly all agree that.a certain amount of extra attention is necessary, in the way of feeding, especially, of sheep coming from poorer • country , to' ciJJJipete .with stock from rich and- woll-grwsed lands. The "faking" of sheep, he considers, can only-be.'described ■•ns-'a dishonest practice. It is of no benefit to the small farmer, for whom, the breeder is supposed to lie setting the example. and striving to bring about improvement ■ to their flocks. • "
