• N.S.W. RUGBY UNION LOSS. (By Tclecrapn—Press Association Copyright) ! Sydney, March 15. The annual report of the New South Wales Rugby Union shows that the loss last,season, amounted to. .£1362. This was chiefly due to the cost of the American University team's visit. The Union, however, has a credit balance of ",Clsß(i. The report states that New Zealand' is still entitled to hold the laurel. Although it was represented last year by a comparatively weak team, the Dominion, finished with an excellent record. ■ MELROSE CLUB. . The..annual meeting, of the Melroso Rugby. Football. Club, was lielii last night. Mr. A! H. Fulford presided. There was an attendance of between thirty and forty.- .. The annual report stated that it was unfortunate that so many good club work•crs had left the district (luring the senson. The result'of the season's matches was unsatisfactory from a club point of view. Out of 37 matches in the various grades eight were won, which was probably the worst year's work in the history of the club. The committee was of opinion that it would .do good if the old members (non-players) assisted in the] management of the club. The death of Mr. \V. Coffey, an , active and earnest worker of the club",' was regretted. • The committee-thought some change in the management of the gymnasium was necessary; it should be made more revenue producing. A redeeming feature was that the play of the club had been clean and ■ihealthy. ■ ! ! The-.-'receipts during the year had amounted to £(H Us., and there was .£ll 9s. '4(1. in hand from the previous year, therefore being .£76 Os. id. .The expenses totalled. £d$- 7s. Id. The credit balance stands at »£7 13s. The gymnasium figured as an asset worth ,CIOO. The committee of the Athletic Football Club, in their thirty-third annual report, state that although from a football and financial noint of view the success attained compared''favourably with that of past seasons, better results are. hoped for during the coming season. The rest of the report is.merely a resume of the past season, and sets forth facts with which rentiers aro already' familiar. The balance-sheet shows a'cash credit uf .£ll2 2s. 2d., and , a balance of assets over liabilities' amounting to JCI22 13s. Bd. SOUTHERN CLUB. .. • The twelfth annual meeting of the Southern Football Club was held in , the. Beehive Chambers'last night, Mr. E. J. Fitzgiubon. presiding over an attendance of CO members. Tho annual report (published on Saturday) and balance-sheet wero adopted. Twenty-ono new members were elected, and it was decided to enter teams for the five grades during the coming season. Arrangements were put in hand to send two teams on tour at Easter. The senior team will play Napier Old Boys at NaTiier on the Saturday, and Kia Toa at I'almerston North on Easter Monday. VICTORIA COLLEGE CLUB. The annual meeting of the Victoria College Football Club was held at the college gymnasium last evening, Mr. A. Curtayne, club captain, presiding. There was an attendance of between 40 and 50 ■members. The annual report and balancesheet of the club showed a very satisfactory state of affairs. The club teams had'more than fulfilled .expectations on the season's. play, and two of tho members had been given places in the provincial representative teams. The finances wero .I' 3in credit. The following officers woro elected for the ensuing term:— President and patron, Professor T. Hunter; club captain, A. Curtayne (reelected); deputy club-captain, J. i>. Mr/ Inder, .referring hi the general .question of raising the staudard of football, anti suppressing rough play, moved that it bo a recommendation to the. club delegates to do all in- their power to foster this ideal. The motion was seconded by Mr. Duncan, but lo.st on the voices. THE PORIRUA CLUB. The first annual meeting of the Porirua Rugby Football Club was held on Tuesday 'evening, "and attended by a ■ good muster of members and intending members.
The annual report congratulates members upon the success attained by the club in its first season, in winning six matches out of eight. This applies to matches played from .Tune la. Thu finances of the club are !n a sound state, particularly as heavy initial expends had to be met. It also thanks tho organisers of two dances, proceeds from which added JtC to the club funds, Dr. Robertson for i> gold medal awarded to K.
