AT LOGGERHEADS.
SWIMMING OFFICIALS DISAGREE. The chairman and secretary of the local Centre of the Swimming Association came to loggerheads last evening, and the dispute that resulted was terminated only by an'assertion of authority on the part of the chairman.'.' A number-of'.remits .were before tho meeting, which are to be dealt with'at this evening's "meeting of the Council ofthe New Zealand Swimming Association. Among theni was a remit'providing , that it should bo an object of the association to recognise any active instrumentality, in life-f-aving, although it had not been a •subject of recognition by tho Eoyal Humane Society. ■' ■ ■ The Centre secretary (Mr. Blick) moved that the delegate' of the Centre upon the "council should bo instructed to support' the proposal on the ground that the rules of the Humane Society were,so exceedingly strict' that many acts ■ of bravery were passed over by it without recognition. . . The motion lapsed, for want of :i seconder, and the Centre was.proceeding to the next business when Mr. Blick rose to protest. "We have these motions laid be•fore'us'by the council," he said, "and are asked to'instruct our delegates as to'how they shall vote. I don't think members have the hang of this thing " The chairman: "That is a reflection on delegate 6-." Mr. Blicki "I : will spenk not as a dole- ■ ■rate,'but as secretary. I look to you for . (JuidancP. This motion is goine; to. come '. before the council, and we ought to in- : •struct-our'. delegates how'.to vote .upon The chairman: "I am sorrv I. cannot -. allow you'to discuss that. The matter ha? been dealt with. We will proceed to the nest business." Mr/Btick: ThiMi our delegate dws not know what to do." ' . At this stngo the matter dropped.
