' Tllli FINANCIAL OUTLOOK. = The monthly meeting of the Victoria College Council" was. Held last evening, there being present the chairman (Mr. \ H. P. Von Jiaast) and Messrs. J. G. W. I Aitken, J. Graham, M.1 , ., H. H. Ostler, :| C. Wilson, A. T. Maginnity, CV Watson, i ]■:. D. Bell, A. W. Hogg, JI.P, Dr. C. P. i Knight, and Sir Robert Stout. j The statement of finances disclosed a credit balance of >SI3"G 18?. (id.; prospec- : tive expenditure on an observatory sta- ■ tion, £S lls. 7d.; current amounts, ,£BSO lGs. 9d., reduced this to .C 517 10s. 2d. net. Tho chairman reported that following \ up a resolution of the previous meeting of tho council a deputation representing j the Finance Committee and ".tho Profes- ; sorial Board waited upon the Minister ; for Education with a request that proyi- j sion might be made whereby the financial ■ position of the college- might be further ; strengthened.- The Minister was unable ; to discuss in detail the memorandum previously forwarded by the council for his : consideration, stating.that it would not ; be possible for him to do anything nt present ■ as'any action .he might take J would involve -a: question of policy, hueh questions of course, would require to be ■ deferred until the return of the Prime H Minister to New Zealand. Under the b Land Bill introduced last session, and . withdrawn, provision was made for dealing with national endowments, and when this measure was placed on the htatnte Book it was probable that tho college j revenue- would be considerably augmented It was suggested by the deputation j that those provisions might be made tho j subject of a separate Bill, but the Mm- Z ister did not reply to that point. j Mr Wilson asked what.the college received from its present "valuable endowment," and was informed that it was 1 about £5. j
