King.' • PFARCE AND ARNST. It is matter of common knowledge that Harry Pearce, champion of Australia, is as.keen as it is possible for a man to bo for a match against Dick Arnst fur tho worlds championship, says an Australian paper. Arnst has consistently refused to nice for less than £500 aside, and as • Pearce has not bsen ablo to raise this amount matters are at a standstill. Both smiller? are entered fer tho Farramatta ■naii'licap and tho champion dt-sires if ■passible, to leave Australia in May Peaveo says he will row A-rnsfc for the championship in seven weeks' time, for or for XSOO aside two weeks after lie meets Kemp, i.e.. in nine weeks, provided of course, that Kemp falls a victim to him. Arnst, when seen, naturally declined to row for less than tho stipulated amount, vis.. ,Sooo aside, but .if Pearce will put up .■£3oo a week before his race with Kemp, Iho cliampioji. will meet him' for. ,£sOll inside thrra weeks thereafter. It would !» unreasonable to cxnect Arnsfc to "o into hard training on tho mere chance of a match, but as he is willing to meet Pearce a fortnight after the Kemp i-ce he oiitrht fn be satisfied to be enmpensated with a less amount than jCSOO in tho event of Penree being beaten by Kemp and unable to fulfil his engagement. -Yiiyhow, with Pearce anxious and Arnst will•infr. it seems a pity that.the men arc kept apart.
