PICNIC.

Mason's Gardens, Taita, was the spot chosen for Messrs. C. and A. Odlin Co.'s picnic on Saturday. The day was.-an ideal one, and a more beautiful or suitable rendezvous could . not have been selected. The party to tho number _of about 200 .were conveyed to the trysting placo by five large drags and several wagonettes' and dogcarts. A varied programme of sports and games was provided. Tug-of-war—First 'heat: Carters beat hardware; second heat: yard beat office; third heat: carters beat joiners; final; carters beat yard' after a desperate struggle. 100 yds. All-comers Race—Riddler, 1; Hnstic, 2; Lucas, 8. Girls' Race, under 11—A. Olliver, 1; N. Odlin. 2; K. Dale, 3. • Married Ladies' Race—Mrs. Hoy, 1: Mrs. Alexander, 2; Mrs. M'Ehvain, ,1. Whistling Race—Cummins and Miss Oliver, 1; Air. and Mrs. Harper, 2; Mr. and Mrs. Keys, 3. Single Ladies' Race—Miss M. Olliver, 1; Miss Bitossi. 2; Miss M. Porter, 3. All-fours Race-O'Neill, 1; Yeo, 2. Boys under 18—King, 1; Sinclair, 2; Bacon 3. Boys' Facie Race—D. Beck, 1; King, 2. Men's Sack Race—Maisey, 1; Dicbl, 2; Hcrron, 3. Lunch and afternoon tea were ■ served under the spreading branches of the trees, aud both these items in the day's programme were thoroughly enjoyed. The start homeward was made at G o'clock. Before separating, hearty cheers were given for the firm collectively and individually, for the sunport and co-operation given by them to the, outing.
