TRADE WITH HAWAII.
(By Telegraph-Special Correspondent.! Auckland, March 11. The, decision of the United States Government to strongly iortily the Ilawnii.-Tn group, to mrtko one of its harbours the largest naval base in the northern l'acific, and permanently to station there a large number pf troops, has led Hawaiian busipeople to look afield for supplies of foodstuffs, etc. For the iiast. few weeks Mr. G. J. Waller, manager of the Hawaiian Moat Company, Ltd., has been touring tno. Dominion for the purpose of ascertaining the possibility of "arranging for supplies of No-v Zealand meat, produce, and butte'r I'or the Hawaiian market. Mr. Waller considers that with the establishment of the new Vancouver' set-' vice, touching at Hawaii, the prospects of trade with New Zealand are particularly bright at present. In Hawaii "there-is an import duty of six cents per lb. on butter, and one and a half cents per lb. on meat imported from elsewhere" than the United Stales; but Mr.' Waller says there is a possibility of this restriction being removed at an early date. . With reference to butter, Mr. Waller points out that it must be entirely free from boracic acid, and that previous shipments had been condemned on that account. In regard to prices of stock and produce, he. thought the Dominion compared more than favourably with the United States, and (herb was every possibility in the near future of Hawaii offering an excellent market, for New Zealand produce.
