Tho United, States Navy League is holding a convention at Los Angeles, California.
The conference discussed tho question of tho strength of tho Pacific fleet.
Eenr-Admiral H. I. Cone, who was Fleet Engineer of the United States Atlantic fleet on its trip round tho world in 1908-00, pointed out that tho American Navy would in' the future burn oil instead of coal, and would, consequently, be independent of coaling bases. This would mean increased effectiveness.
