STEAMER BUILT IN BELGIUM,

The correspondent of "La Gazette" (Brussels) writes:— On January 24 was launched at Hoboken a new steamer, the lhumata, constructed for the Union Steain Ship Company of New Zealand. Tho christening ceremony, which took place in the presence of Sir Cecil Hertslet, Consul-Gen-oral of England, was performed by Madame Bcwlay, who cut away tho stay. This launching has a particular 'interest, in that it is the. first time that an English vessel has been built in Belgium. *"' Cecil Hertslet, who is a warm friend of Belgium, is said to be greatly pleased at this development, and to havo expressed the hope that further English orders will be given for tho encouragement of the Belgian industry.
