CONDUCT OF MATTHEW COOPER.

ARRESTED AGAIN. On Saturday, Sergeant Matliiesoii, of Ihe Wellington South Police Station, received a complaint from Meiu Street regarding (he conduct of Matthew Cooper. At the recent sittings of the Supreme Court, Cooper, who is a loundryman by occupation, was found gnilly of assaulting his wife, but as he had been in custody for sonic time he was released on the rising of the Court. The complaint made to the police on Saturdiy was to ihe effect that Cooper had thrown a cup of soup over his wife, and Sergeant Mathic.-on anj Conslablo Taylor went lo (lie man's residence io ask for an explanation. Cooper staled that he would go lo (he police station and give an explanation, but, instead of doing so, ho ran into the front room, and when the police officers found him h* had a wound in the throat apparently inflicted by a raz.ir. A man ninied Francis Scaife, who occupies portion of the same house as •Cooper, had two of his fingers badly cut in endeavouring to get possession of the razor. Both Cooper and Seaife were taken to the hospital to hove their wounds dressed. As Cooper's wound was not a serious one he was handed into custody again. On Saturday afternoon he was brought before Dr. A. M'Arthnr, S.M., and charged with attempted suicide. On (he application of the police he was remanded until Wednesday next.
