* The Roman Catholic Archbishop of Wellington intends going to Perth, West Australia, to assist at the consecration of the Eight Kev. Dr. Chine, who has been appointed Bishop of Perth in succession to the Eight Kev. Dr. Gibney, resigned. Dr. Clune is a native of Clare. He was ordained in 186G and went to the diocese of Goulburn, where he ministered for seven years, after which he joined the Kedemptorist Congregation, lieturning to the land of his birth he worked hard in many parts of Ireland, giving missions, his sermons always drawing large congregations. In ISO!) ho returned to Australasia and after a few years' missionary work be was appointed superior of the Redemptorist House, Wellington, New Zealand, and later on rector of the. Eedemptorist House, Perth.
Mr. F. A. De la Mare, of the staff of the Department of Internal Affairs, leaves on a trip to England next month. It is Mr. De !a Mare's intention to be present at the Empire Festival sports. "A" Squadron of the Wellington Mounted Hifie Territorials (Hcretannga Mounted Eillcs) arc to tender a complimentary dinner to Captain A. M. Samuel, at the Hotel Windsor on Wednesday evening. Captain Samuel is about to leave on a visit to the Old Country. Mr. D. A. Abercrombie, manager of the Queensland Insurance Company, returned from the south by the Maori yesterday morning. Mr. Edwin Doidgo, editor and proprietor of the "C'oofainnndra Liberal" (New South Wales), is a visitor to Wellington. Mr. Drudge was connected with the press at the Thames over thirty years ago. His son is now oh the reporting staff of the Auckland "Star.'" A Press Association telegram from Dunedin records the death of Dr. Douglas, of Queenstown, who was in charge of the Frankton Hospital from 1864 to 1910. A ballot of tramway employees oh the question of the appointment of somcono to represent them on the Tramway Appeal Board for the Christchurch district resulted in the election of Mr. James Young, «ecretaty of the Tramway Employees' Union.—Press Association. Mr. Frederick Carrick, formerly prominent in local yachting circles, has retired from the postal service on superannuation, after !!."> years' service in Wellington, piclon, and Nelson. Mr. Charles Zachariah, of the Public Trust Office, who was appointed district manager at Xew Plymouth a few months back,"has received won! of further promotion, having been appointed district manager for the Public Trust Office for the whole al' Taranaki, and reserves agent in charge of West Coast Solllenwnt Reserves, with hcadrniavtcis at T/owera. Mr. Zaehariah. who has been in Wellington for a few days, leaves for Taranaki this morning. Mr. I!. 11. Edwards. J.P., who was in business in Wellington for many year?,' will leave on an extended trip to Tasmania on Thursday next. Mr. Edwards left. Lnuucrs'on, his birthplace, W years ago, and, after spending three years in the South Island (principally on the Ologn coldliolds), he came lo Wellington, and has lived here ever since.
