; KERSAINT AT LYTTELTON.
'By ToletraiDh-l'r«n Association.) Chrlstchurch, February 17. , The French cruiser- Kersaint arrived at Lyttelton at noon to-day from Akaroa, itid.was brought in by Captain A. H. Thorpo to a berth at the Gladstone pier. It is somo years sinco a warship flying'ino French flag visited Lyttelton,, the. last vessel being the small gunboat 'Euro. At 1 p.m. the Mayor of Christchurch (Mr. C. Allison) and tho Town Clerk (Mr. H. R. Smith), tlio Mayor, of Lyttelton (Mr. M. J. Millar), and tlio Town CJerk (Mr. 0. A. Lowin), Mr.C. Hood Williams (secretary of tho Lyttelton Harbour Board),. Mr. C. J. R. Williams (engineer to the board), Mr. G. Humphreys (Consul for France), Mr. G. Lauronson, M.l'., and Lieutenant Sandlo (O.C. Lyttelton, K.N'.Z.A., as representative) of Lieutenant-Colonel Hawkins, 0.C.. Canterbury district), paid an official visit to Commander Max Tiercolin, on board tho Kersaint. In thn absence of Mr. Hugo Friedlander (chairman of tho Harbour Board), Mr. Hoo'l Williams rend an address of welcome. Tho toasts of the French and British nations were honoured.
